======[ The Official Aardwolf Bureau of Tourism Adventurer's Guide ]======

Greetings, new adventurer! Welcome to the wonderful world of Aardwolf.
This guide is designed to help familiarize you with many of the people,
places, and things you will find most useful in your beginning Aardwolf
adventures. If you are completely lost, please read 'help newhelp'.

This guide is broken up into several pages of information:
Page1: Class guild locations (for training/practicing after level 5)
Page2: Important shops around the central city of Aylor
Page3: Important help files to read before getting underway.
Page4: Channels and other forms of communication within the game.
Page5: Tips on reducing spam as you learn your way around the game.
Page6: Some good starting areas for fighting after graduating MUDschool.
Page7: Suggested equipment for beginning levels.
Page8: Other new players' frequently-asked questions.

To read a particular page, type 'read <pagename>', e.g., read page1.
All directions within this guide start from The Grand City of Aylor, also
known as 'recall'. To get back to this room, simply type recall.

This guide recreated for Aylor by the Immortals & [Helpers], 24 July 2006.

==[ Aardwolf Adventurer's Guide: Guilds ]========================== (page1)

As you level, you will gain skills and training sessions. To make use of
these, skills must be practiced and training sessions must be used on your
stats. You can do this at the trainers in the Academy; but eventually you
will want to branch out and head to your class' guild trainer. Guild halls
can be found near the Grand Plaza, in the following locations:

     Cleric: runto cleric Psionicist: runto psi
     Mage: runto mage Thief: runto thief
     Ranger: runto ranger Warrior: runto warrior
     Paladin:  runto paladin

The guild trainer sits in the room at the end of the runto, so this trainer
is quite simple to access. The 'find all' command may also be used to view
all the locations in the Grand City of Aylor that you may runto. You can use
these special runto keywords that you discover on the 'find all' list from any
room in the city. You will only be able to practice skills and train stats in
the same room as a trainer. See 'help practice' and 'help train' for
more information.

Some clans also have trainers in their public halls; you may find these as
you continue to explore more of the city of Aylor.

==[ Aardwolf Adventurer's Guide: Shops And Important Locations]===== (page2)

Various shops and useful services are available for your perusal
throughout the city of Aylor. The 'find' command assists you in
finding directions while you are in Aylor city. Typing 'find all' will
list you keywords for the available locations. No matter where you are in
The Grand City of Aylor, you can then type runto <location> in order to get
to any of the places found with 'find all'.

Further to this, 'find <location>' will give you the directions starting
from your current location in Aylor - i.e. to find the directions to Xena's
Weapon Parlor, you would 'find weapons'.

More detailed information about the 'find' command can be found
under 'help find'.

==[ Aardwolf Adventurer's Guide: Help Files ]====================== (page3)

Learning a new MUD takes a lot of patience and reading. You will often see
[Helpers] pointing to various help files on the Newbie channel. These
help files often go into great detail about how different things work here on
Aardwolf.

If you're lost at any time, read 'help newhelp'.

Make sure you have read 'help rules' and the policies files listed there.

Other help files of importance (most of these are covered in the Academy):

help practice / help train: Increase stats and better your skills.
help cast: How to use magical spells in Aardwolf.
help consider: Learn the strength of a possible opponent before attacking.
help map: Learn about Aardwolf's map system and what the symbols mean.

Type 'contents' to see a list of help file categories and how to browse
them. 'help index' shows how to list all help files that begin with a
particular letter/letters. Also check help help.

==[ Aardwolf Adventurer's Guide: Channels ]======================== (page4)

The most important channel you will use is newbie. You have access to
this channel from levels 1 to 200, or until you reach 300 hours online time.
Please try to use this channel first, as not only are other new players
reading and responding, but Immortals, [Helpers] and (Advisors) are available
to answer questions as well.

The barter channel can be used to ask for items to be auctioned if you
need them. Once they are up for auction, simply bid <#number> <$amount>.

The question and answer channels work as one; this is a great place to ask
about MUD information if you do not find a response on newbie channel.

The wangrp channel is a good place to find fellow group-mates for leveling.

The tech channel is a good place to ask technical questions, such as issues
with your client or problems connecting to Aardwolf.

There are many more channels available; type 'channels' to see a list. To
toggle a channel on or off, simply type its name by itself, e.g., 'tech'.
read page5
==[ Aardwolf Adventurer's Guide: Reducing Spam ]=================== (page5)

Aardwolf has a lot going on at the same time, and thus a lot of information
is sent back and forth to all the players. This can often be overwhelming
for new players.

You can stop a lot of in-room spam from others (entering and leaving the
room, wearing of equipment, etc.) by typing 'sleep'. When you want to get
back up, simply type 'stand'.

To turn off all channels at once, type 'quiet'. Type it again to turn all
current channels back on. To toggle individual channels off, type the channel
name by itself.

Using the 'runto' command quickens the pace at which you walk to an area, and
greatly reduces the information you see going from room to room.

A large list of options that may be toggled on and off to control spam may
be found in 'help spamreduce'.

==[ Aardwolf Adventurer's Guide: Low-level Areas ]================= (page6)

The following paths start from the room The Grand City of Aylor (recall).

* You will be locked out of the Academy once you reach level 11, and
Lowlands once you reach level 11.

To find other popular areas for leveling and what to fight in them, use
the mobdeaths command. See 'help mobdeaths'.

Keywords to runto for areas may be found using the command 'areas keywords
<areaname>'. So entering 'areas keywords legend' would return all the
results of areas with the word 'legend' in them as well as the keywords to
use in order to runto them.

The clist command may be used to see a quick list of all clans and
their respective keywords that you may runto.
read page7
==[ Aardwolf Adventurer's Guide: Starting Equipment ]============== (page7)

While you start with basic equipment, you will find more as you venture
through the Academy, as well as in other areas. If you are below level 5 and
your character happens to die, then you can type 'outfit' in order to equip
yourself with the same basic outfit you started with after creating your
character.

To find a list of equipment that would be most useful for your character, use
the 'eqsearch' command. Use 'eqsearch all' in order to find a quick
list of all available equipment that would be useful for you. If the item is
located at a clan, you can runto the area and find a shopkeeper by entering
'list'. If the item is not located at a clan hall, then it will be found on
a mob that you will need to kill.

Hallowed lights may contain a few stats and do not flicker/go out. Ask
on barter channel for one (see 'help barter'). Also, 'help garbage can'
will explain how to get a portal that will take you directly to Recall.

Some clans also offer newbie bags, complete sets of level 1 clan equipment.
Type 'who crusader active' and send anyone you may find a tell politely
asking for a newbie bag. Note that some gear may have alignment restrictions-
see 'help alignment' and try to keep yourself on the side of Good.

==[ Aardwolf Adventurer's Guide: Frequently Asked Questions ]====== (page8)

The following are some common questions asked by many new players.

Q: I just leveled and there are no exits. What do I do?
A: Once you reach level 11 in Lowlands or level 11 in the Academy, you will no
   longer be able to move. You will have to recall and find somewhere else to
   level. Some suggestions are listed on page 6 of this guide.

Q: Can I die of hunger/thirst?
A: No. However, your regeneration rates will be much slower while hungry
   or thirsty. Buy some food and/or drink liquids (like from the fountain
   in the Academy Courtyard) to help fill you up. Try purchasing a liquid
   container at a clan hall which you can then 'fill' at a fountain.

Q: How do I see what I'm wearing, what I'm carrying, how much gold I have,
   and other information about my character?
A: 'equipment', 'inventory', 'worth', and 'score'/'whois', respectively.

Q: How do I locate a specific mob in an area?
A: Make sure you can detect both invis and hidden mobs. Use the
   'potsearch' command to 'potsearch detect hidden' and 'potsearch
   detect invis' potions, or runto potions when in The Grand City of Aylor
   and list the items and then 'appraise' them to find out what they
   do. Don't forget about the 'where' command. You can also take a
   look at 'help hunt trick'. We also have maps available along with
   other great resources on our Aardwolf Wiki (see 'help wiki').
